New Mexico State University Summary New Mexico State University is a public institution that was founded in 1888. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 12,784, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 900 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. New Mexico State University's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 199. Its in-state tuition and fees are $6,729 (2015-16); out-of-state tuition and fees are $21,234 (2015-16). There are five New Mexico State University locations, with the main campus situated in Las Cruces, about 50 miles north of the Mexican border. Undergraduates at NMSU can choose from nearly 90 bachelor's degrees, and graduate students can pursue more than 50 master's programs, including those in the colleges of business, engineering and education. Freshmen who are eligible for NMSU's honors program can take small, specialized classes called "Journeys of Discovery." US Bank/NM State Athletics Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2016

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State Athletics Department, in conjunction with US Bank, is proud to announce the three distinguished former student-athletes selected as this year's inductees into the US Bank/NM State Athletics Hall of Fame.

The class of 2016 includes baseball All-American Billy Becher, and volleyball All-Americans Stevi Adams Maytubby and Kim Oguh Nield.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at halftime of the Feb. 20 men's basketball game when the Aggies close their home schedule against Seattle U at the Pan American Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Becher (2003-04) is one of the most decorated baseball student-athletes ever at NM State. Twice named first team All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers, USA Today, College Baseball's Louisville Slugger and College Baseball Insider, Becher set the Aggie record and led the NCAA in home runs with 32 in 2003. He was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 2003 and a finalist for the Dick Howser and Rotary Smith Awards as National Player of the Year He led the team again in 2004 with 25 to set the Aggie career mark with 57 round-trippers in two seasons. Drafted by the Oakland A's, he played three seasons in the minor leagues. Now living in Gilbert, Ariz., Becher is the assistant sales manager at Earnhart Nissan in Mesa, Ariz.

Adams Maytubby (2001-04) was an Aggie star on the hardwood court. The Houston, Texas native was named an honorable mention AVCA All-American her senior year in 2004 as well as first team AVCA All-Region. She was named All-Sun Belt Conference three times, twice first team in 2003 and 2004, and once second team in 2002. When she graduated, the outside hitter left as the Aggies all-time leader with 1,559 kills and was third in career service aces (145) and career digs (1,281). When she ended her playing career, she was the only player in school history to be ranked in the top five in career kills, digs and aces. She is now an advertising account manager for Houstonia Magazine in Houston.

Oguh Nield (2004-07) is the only three-time All-American in NM State volleyball history, named an honorable mention in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The El Paso middle blocker was also named AVCA All-Region, a first team All-Western Athletic Conference and WAC All-Tournament player as a sophomore, junior and senior. Her prowess at the net still has her ranked third in career blocks (463), third in single-season blocks (175 in 2006) and third in career hitting percentage (.337), while recording 1,150 career kills. Now in a career as a human resources consultant for ADT, she lives in Houston.

NM State's Murphy Named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. – NM State senior Gwen Murphy has 
been named a 2015 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 
Honorable Mention All-American. This marks the first year all Honorable 
Mention All-Americans were selected by the selection committee, as 
previously players who made All-Region were automatically honorable 
mention if they didn't make one of the three teams.


The WAC Player of the Year and WAC Tournament MVP, Murphy averaged 3.29 
kills on .421 hitting, 0.83 blocks and 0.67 digs per set. A three-time 
WAC Player of the Week during the season, she was named AVCA National 
Player of the Week for Aug. 24-30, becoming the first Aggie ever to earn
 the honor. Murphy also broke the WAC record for hitting percentage in a
 match when she finished with 14 kills on 15 attempts and no errors for a
 .933 hitting percentage against Robert Morris. The previous record was 
.889.

2015 Class

View larger LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State volleyball head coach Mike Jordan announced the signing of four student-athletes for the 2015 season on Thursday, including two players from the state of New Mexico. Tatyana Battle, Briana Ainsworth, Bryn Popovich and Megan Hart have all signed on to begin playing for Jordan and the Aggies beginning next season. “It’s an athletic class filled with a lot of size, which is something we need,” Jordan said. “They all come from winning backgrounds and they’re all great young women, we’re excited to have them all.” Battle just finished her volleyball career at Cibola High School in Albuquerque by leading the Cougars to the 6A state championship. The 6-0 outside hitter led her team to a straight-set win in the championship match over No. 1 Rio Rancho after posting a match-high 21 kills. She finished her senior season at Cibola with 251 total kills, a 5.10 kills per set average and a .408 hitting percentage while adding 193 digs, 38 total blocks and 20 service aces. “Tatyana is a six-rotation player that’s got a lot of skill now, she’s improved a lot this last year,” Jordan said. “I think Tatyana will fill a hole for us in that she is a six-rotation outside hitter, someone that can stay on the floor.” Battle also plays for the Albuquerque Rebels club team, which has finished in the top 5 in several national tournaments, including a first-place finish at the 17-open Disney Showcase in Orlando, Florida, earlier this year. Ainsworth, another Albuquerque native, played her high school volleyball at Cleveland High School. One of the best setters in the state of New Mexico, Ainsworth led the Storm to the semifinals of this season’s 6A state championships. Ainsworth did help Cleveland to the 2012 New Mexico state championship. The 5-8 setter finished her senior season with 868 assists and an 11.90 assists per set average. She also added 245 digs and 78 kills. “Briana is a winner,” Jordan said. “She’s not a big setter but she locates really well and she’s got a lot of experience setting balls with a little bit of pace to the antenna and she’s a good defender and really good server.” For her Storm career Ainsworth finished with 2,458 total assists, including 1,037 as a sophomore, an 11.80 career assists per set average and 600 digs. Ainsworth is also a teammate of Battle on the Albuquerque Rebels club team. Popovich hails from Sierra Vista, Ariz., where she played for the Buena High School Colts. The 6-2 outside hitter lettered all four years in high school and has earned all-division and All-Southern Arizona honors the last three years. “Popovich is a good front-row athlete,” Jordan said, “but is also a very good back-row attacker long term, someone we can see playing in six rotations with some work.” This season she led the team with 242 total kills and a 3.80 kills per set average. For her career Popovich has amassed 704 kills, 99 blocks, 449 digs and 128 service aces. Hart is a 6-4 middle hitter from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. She plays her prep volleyball for Immaculata Regional High School where she was a three-time first team all-star selection. “Megan is a 6-4 gifted athlete with arm speed that can play multiple positions in the front row,” Jordan said. Hart also plays for two of the biggest club teams in British Columbia, one of which won the 17-under British Columbia Provincial championship earlier this year. The current Aggies are in Bakersfield, Calif., awaiting the winner of tonight’s match between third-seeded Bakersfield and No. 6 seed Texas-Pan American.
